Lochside Academy, in Aberdeen, replaced the former Torry and Kincorth Academies to become the largest school in the city upon opening.
Balfour Beatty was appointed as main contractor for Lochside Academy, following close collaboration with Aberdeen City Council and hub North Scotland during the preconstruction phase to provide the most cost-effective and high-quality design solution.

This project represents the largest ever single investment in the Aberdeen school estate as part of the Council’s ongoing commitment to providing new and improved facilities tacross Aberdeen. The £47 million three-story high-tech campus is located on the southern outskirts of the city and has a capacity of up to 1,350 pupils.
Our team were involved from the early stages of the project advising on design elements, final specification and fixing methods for signage throughout the building which incorporates community facilities including, a six-lane swimming pool, fitness suite, dance and drama studios, 4G sports pitches, games halls and library.

As Consultants on this project, we advised our client which fixing methods would be the most suitable for each type of sign based on the materials and substrate each sign would be fitted to. The signs had to be durable and secure within the busy environment of a large school, which also houses community facilities. As consultants we advise our clients of any H&S implications regarding fitting methods or sign locations.
On the external signage we arranged a site survey, prior to manufacture, to confirm what access equipment was required during installation and to ensure that we had specified the correct fixing method for the high level signs being fitted to the building facade.

This project involved the manufacture and installation of various sign types including external post mounted sign systems, folded trays to be fitted through brickwork, internally wall mounted directories and digitally print and cut wall graphics.
